Conducting Rigorous Research

Over the last few years, the CUSP has been recognized nationally and internationally with accolades on the highest quality research being conducted to study evidence-based practices for schools. The studies conducted include foci on reading, writing, STEM, teacher knowledge, and community practices. The research and development conducted by CUSP has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. News and World Report.

US Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences Director, Mark Schneider reported on the efficacy of the reading approach used in ITSS in improving reading comprehension.

US News and World Report states that the intelligent tutoring system for the text structure strategy (ITSS) technology is the only reading program with research support.

Only one piece of software that taught reading, Intelligent Tutoring for the Structure Strategy (ITSS), showed promise, suggesting that it is possible to create good educational software outside of math, but it’s a lot harder.
